Witness how cleverly I turned my big comfy sweater into a winter-friendly minidress! Ok, so my legs were still FREEZING! But I felt properly glamourous for an evening of gallery hopping...
Old Navy camel coat, thrifted and altered; Vintage fur; Sweater coat, Anthropologie; Tights, U.O.; Jessica Simpson platform maryjanes, The Rack; Tyrolean hat, stolen from Mom; Victorian button pendant, gift from Mom.
And today? Cookies! The Christmas gala for the museum is tomorrow, and Mom and I have volunteered to make hundreds of tiny cookies...oh dear! What have we gotten ourselves into? My outfit was so neutral today, I decided it needed a pop of color, so I put on electric pink lipstick and a red leather belt. Done and done.

Here's a question...So, I have this FANCY party to go to, which is a work event. I know I want to wear black opaque tights, and my black beaded sweater. But should I wear them with my black Helmut Lang dress (So serious!), or my J. Crew leopard print cocktail dress (Wildly unprofessional?)? Help!
Your second outfit looks so classy with the coat on and the animal print ballet flats. The firstt one is...very much you a creative mix of favorite pieces!!!The platforms look fantastic but are they comfy at all?
ReplyDeleteOh, Lord. I'm so in love with outfit 26!! The hat, the fur, the sweater dress! LOVE. I vote for the Helmut Lang dress for the party, although either would work in my book.
ReplyDelete@ Angie, They are SO comfortable. I think they are just really brilliantly engineered. The balance is perfect, the leather is soft, and the straps are nice and sturdy. I kind of live in these, and in my other pair of JS shoes, which I bought at the same time...four years ago! I'm hoping my new ones will be as comfy...
ReplyDeleteI love that you took a simple outfit, added fun shoes and a red belt, and BAM, you had an adorable little number!
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the J.Crew print...which surprises me (I'm always so boring!). Can you style it in a way that would make it more professional? A black shrug or shall or something to tone down the print?
The Auspicious Life
omg i love how versatile you were, making your cardigan into a mini! and i love that fur. lovvvvve. i also love the platforms and your adorable shoes. and WHO, pray tell, is this Very Handsome Man?!
ReplyDeletealso, i love how perfect casual your second outfit is. i am attempting to make a foray into Lipcolor soon and i am officially going to seek you out for advice. done and done.
I am loving those tights, so great! You can't beat a great pair of tights to add excitement and complete an outfit.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the Helmut Lang (not a fan of leopard). I really like the tights and I'm stunned to be admiring a Jessica Simpson brand product, but those Mary Janes are excellent.
ReplyDeleteUmm WOWness galore, here. These two outfits are wildly different but I just adore both of them!
ReplyDeleteI...kind of think I'd go all black. Just because I think that's starkly daring and always chic. But I'm sure you'll pick what's best!!
I really like the simplicity of the second outfit (and that color with the red belt look amazing on you). Also love the sweater in the first.
ReplyDeleteI'd go black.
Also, I totally know what you mean about having trouble winding down...if it's any consolation!
Go black! Go black! That dress looks HOT on you!
ReplyDeleteOne more for the leopard print--it almost looks like tortoiseshell to me. And as much as I love all black, it is so ubiquitous in the PacNW. You look great in colors and prints.
ReplyDeleteMelindaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I love you face! Do you have the slightest clue how giddy it makes me that you read my blog? Yay! I think you are all right about the black dress...though the point is NOT to look hot! Competent! Professional! Elegant! Refined! Oh, dear. Its a good thing I'm taking cookies.
ReplyDeletediscovered this lady on etsy today and it made me think of you:

only dont buy the charcoal gray wool lace-trimmed dress. or i might have to go inmate on you, carve my toothbrush into a shiv, and do something drastic. not because i am violent or because i don't love you, but because i am so in love with that dress. the end.
You and your style make me smile, srsly, yes srsly. That first picture/outfit is like you're a refined gangster's moll who decided to go "eff it" and become a veritable gangster herself. Bitch, yeah.
ReplyDeleteEven though I'm a fan of leopard print, I think the Helmut Lang dress is definitely getting my vote for this type of occasion. Classy, but not stuffy. Then of course, it's ultimately your choice in the end. :)
Toast with Charmalade
Well, I think you could totally get away with the leopard dress if that's what you've got a hankering for. Holiday parties are really forgiving, you can totally push the boundaries a bit. Besides, the black dress is a shoe-in, right? Bet you wouldn't end up being the only one wearing a black dress.
ReplyDeleteLeopard print, on the other hand...
Eh! You're gonna look fab no matter what:)
