Dreaming of spring...

I am typing this at 6:53 am. Outside I can hear the garbage truck making its cumbersome and clunking way up my street, mechanics whirring, punctuated by the wholly organic sound of pelting rain and a slushy hum from the highway. Why the hell am I up? Excellent question. Lately my sleep pattern has been...unconventional. But, in the absence of caffeine, I'm trusting my body to tell me what it wants, so, awake it is. I should be formatting signage for the upcoming exhibit, checking the dates on items to be included, polishing up a cover design for my sole literary client (My uncle! He writes thrillers!), or, at the very least, finishing the dishes, but...pfft! I don't want to.

It has been cold, my little chickadees. Cold, and wet. Going outside is a miserable and mucky finger-numbing affair. Oh, la la, I am bored to tears with boots and jeans and boots and jeans and boots and jeans. Can I get a hallelujah? Is anybody else dreaming of sunshine and wispy little things? *le sigh*

My outlook for spring and summer is polished and feminine. I'll be sticking to classic cuts and elegant, breezy silhouettes. Lately I've been craving a more ladylike approach to warm weather dressing; collars primly buttoned just so, nipped in waists, and soft volume reined in with sharp little belts, pleated trousers, swingy jackets, lots of grey and navy, and pretty drapey blouses in bold, punchy pops of print and color for whimsy.  Chunky shoes and touches of menswear should keep everything from getting too Merchant-Ivory. I'm also favoring a smaller, brighter bag for spring. I'll be resurrecting my favorite little thrifted purple Prada satchel and keeping my eyes peeled for a perfect low profile but luxe clutch, in an eye popping neon hue.

My favorite beauty trend on the spring runways was the pairing of a classic cat eye liner (This one is what I use every. single. day.) with bright matte finish fuschia and tangerine lips. So fresh and pretty, especially with dewy sunscreen skin and a slightly mussed updo. A swipe of this genius and a dab of the best powder ever should tone things down enough for work.

In the meantime, a girl can dream, right?

  1. I'm guessing Dries Van Noten. Do I win a prize? If you crop the last pic of Jason Wu at the knees, it'll give you an idea of how the outfit would look like on me. Well, while you're altering the pic, you'd have to stretch it wider. Haha!

Stay warm! We had snow yesterday evening which turned to rain, so now we have slush. I have a sudden hankerin' to go to 7-11. Or K-Mart. My boys have a two-hour school delay so I'm lounging. Then it's off two start my workday at noon. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

  2. I die for those bright blue Stella McCartney pants.

If I wasn't a redhead, I would totally join you on the fuschia/tangerine lipstick train. For now, I'm relying on my emerald green eyeliner.

  3. I'm loving the yellow DVN skirt (If only I looked good in yellow!!)
I can't wait for Spring either, or at least a nice sunny day, I don't care if it's cold... I'm just tired of rain & slush.

  4. Gahhhhhhh I want spring to come so badly....I know it'll be spring in like 2 weeks in California, but alas I'm going back to Boston where it won't get warm until at least April.

  5. Oh, how pretty is that first dress? So pretty.
I think weather is warming up, but it won't be dry for a long time, I'm afraid! Here's to finding good ways to spend the Portland winter.

  7. Ooooh, I love that Jason Wu outfit! I love your make-up color choices. I've been wearing a "mermaid" bright and sea green obsessively. They look insane in the little pot but look fantastic on. Either that or I'm in total denial!
